The Bachelor of Science in Interior Design prepares prospective students to solve problems related to the function, health/safety/well-being, and quality of interior environments. The program has been continuously accredited since the 1980s; the agency of oversight is the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). Learn
The interior design program promotes design research, critical thinking, and creativity in design decisions applied to interior spaces, components, and elements in the built environment. These decisions reflect consideration for social welfare, cultural implications, global and economic elements. The curriculum blends theory and technical skills with sensitivity to environmentally responsible/sustainable design issues and consideration for all users’ needs regardless of age, physical stature, or disability status. Design studios cover hospitality design, commercial design, office space planning, residential design, healthcare design, etc.
Opportunities
Graduates are well-prepared to enter the workplace with a skill set that allows them to thrive professionally and work collaboratively in both the commercial and residential areas of the profession. Skills include drafting, perspective drawing/rendering, AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Photoshop, SketchUp, Lumion, Illustrator, and CET Designer, with an integrative understanding of HVAC, lighting, building codes, ADA, WELL, and LEED rating system.
